As some of you may already know, my son Bradley struggled with severe Eczema (or “itchy spots” as he refers to the condition) since he was a baby. We went to countless pediatrician appointments hoping to find a cure or at least some relief to get his poor skin under control.
If you don’t know anything about eczema, your skin is made up of building blocks called skin cells which are then covered by your body’s natural oil to lock in moisture and block out irritants. People with eczema, don’t have a very strong natural barrier and therefore are prone to dryness and irritants in products and environment. Typically, long lengths of time in water make it worse.
When we would seek help for Bradley’s eczema, no one ever asked what laundry detergent or products we were using. Instead, they were quick to prescribe topical steroid creams and eczema therapy lotions. Not knowing any better and trusting the medical professionals, we followed the regimen as recommended but he would still get major flare ups.
